There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Hello,

I am contemplating joining a stock agency. I upload to a few micro-stock sites, such as shutterstock, but I am starting to believe that microstock is a wrong way to go perhaps. Which proper stock agency would you guys recommend? Is Alamy the go?

I've also been on www.photographersdirect.com although haven't been able to sell anything there (not that I have a huge library there anyway).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/ experiences.

Alex, I am afraid you are asking for commercial advice here and is not something that should be asked for on the Forum. Anyway, just a friendly reminder in case you were not aware.

Otherwise, there were some articles late last year about the stock photo industry that I thought were interesting. I saved them and attached them here and they may answer some of your questions.

There are new articles coming out all the time from the PDN (Photographers District News) and where the attached articles came from. PDN is a great source for information on this subject and many others.

In order to get access to most of their really good stuff you need to pay an annual subscription fee to PDN, but you can also sign up for a free weekly newsletter on their web site and get some of their shorter articles for free if you like:

Hope this helps...

Alex,

I will not comment on the stock agencies you mentioned, but I can tell you that selling stock takes time, patience, dedication and a lot of images. There is a good forum on stcok and photo marketing in general here:

Good luck.

Don't worry Alex, you didn't break Forum rules and hopefully what Gary and I provided will help put you in the right direction. Best wishes with it.
