Well the 5D has arrived and I'm loving it already.  Thought I'd take a lot longer to adjust to it especially coming from a Nikon D2Xs but after spending about half an hour customising the functions, it's ready to rock and roll!

I bought a 24-105L f4 IS and initially I was concerned about losing the extra stops from not having f2.8.  After trying out the IS and shooting at ISO 1250 and ISO 1600 - I'm not worried at all anymore Cheesy  Reviews that said the 5D was pretty much noiseless all the way to ISO 1600 weren't kidding!  Ok so there's minimal noise in the shadow detail but then who's pixel peeping  Wink

Loving it and now just need to get a decent length off camera cord for the 580EX and I'm set.  Why oh why did Canon only make a 60cm one  Huh  Also why not provide a LCD protector for the screen  >Sad  Other than that it's tops.  Oh and PP is going to be so much faster now as I can go back to Rawshooter Premium Cheesy

Wayne--Welcome to the club of satisfied 5D users.  Grin  Yes, I wonder why Canon has no LCD screen protector like Nikon, but I use the Hoodskins for protection and they work well. http://www.hoodmanusa.com/hoodskins.asp

Bjorn--I had bought one for the 5D a little over a year ago, mainly to reduce LCD glare out in the field. Worked reasonably well though when it was really bright I still had trouble seeing, but that could be my aging eyes and not the glare. What I did not like about it was having to close the thing every time I wanted to compose a shot. Started to annoy me after awhile--but apples and oranges as I met someone on a trip last year that really loved hers. What another friend on this trip had was the loupe from Hoodman. That worked great as far as reducing glare, and also made everything on the LCD menu and the image big and easy to see. I was very sceptical, even telling my friend "How come you don't wear a beret when you have this loupe hanging off of your neck?"  Cheesy  I plan on getting one of those as I was impressed with it.  http://www.hoodmanusa.com/H-LPP.asp

Thanks guys for the advise.  I'll go look for the LCD protector stick-ons as chimping might start becoming a pain having to flip the cover up and down :)

Does anyone have any firsthand experience with that Hood Loupe? It looks like an interesting product and could be quite useful when shooting outdoors, but I am not sure how easy and quick it is to mount and unmount from the LCD of the camera for viewing? Just concerned it will slow down the work flow to a point where after using it for a while I might not use it anymore if it takes too much fiddling and then it ends up being another one of those things that just stays in the bag.

Well I took it for a spin last night for a play rehearsal.  Spent the whole time shooting at ISO1250 and ISO 1600.  Even then I still had to turn IS on as the only available light was overhead fluorescent lighting.

Loving the camera but need to get used to focal lengths again.

Nikon really needs a FF camera. I think they are losing too many customers.

I am tempted to make the move as well...but feel already too vested in Nikon...

Seriously though, how many people actually need the FF?  I don't need FF but decided to go for it anyway because I was fortunate to have that option of going down the path to the 5D.

I'm not trying to disprove your point but I've been hearing a lot of complaints lately and I don't think some are justified, most likely just jumping on the bandwagon and having their moment of complaining :)

I just made the move last month to a 5D with 24-105L IS USM lens and am really pleased with it.  Previously I was shooting with a Contax G2, Sony R-1 and Nikon F3 as well as 4x5.  The image quality with the 5D seems fabulous (as judged on computer monitor -- am still waiting to do some large prints when my printers arrive).

I purchased the 5D at Foto Thailand in MBK.  Their price for the 5D body (at 91,400 baht) was lower than best US on-line price I could find.  Got another 7% back in VAT at the airport.  Lenses here are a bit more expensive than B&H in NYC.  forget Singapore -- prices are 20% more.

I just ordered the 70-300 OD IS USM -- despite somewhat mixed reviews on web.  Does anyone here have experience with it?

For what it is worth, here is a list of camera and lens prices in HK. Many brands:

Normally HK is considered the lowest price in the region, but there is a cost of travel to go over there and some items like Canon bodies for example do not carry international warranties.
