some answers have disappeared though I received notification of them. Mark's post yesterday has also gone, The new image gallery is not getting much traffic, and it's been really hard to open sections, let alone threads. maybe a glitch, and hopefully all is back to normal. In any case, I wish you all a very happy 2007. I am just about a week away from landing in Bangkok for another great trip thru Asia, canera at the ready.

Hey Kingie. I noticed same problems. Also new gallery section doesn't allow to make a new post as only poll option is available rather than new post  :-\

Happy New Year to all!

I guess this is the problem

"Internet users in Thailand were able to access some websites today, but around 70 per cent of Net subscribers were without access for the second day, monopoly bandwidth provider CAT Telecom Public Company Ltd said.

They and millions of other people across Asia suffered a second straight day without full Internet service on Thursday as telecoms operators raced to counter predictions of weeks without web access.

At least eight boats headed to the waters between Hong Kong and Taiwan so that repairmen could tackle the complicated task of fixing underwater fibre-optic cables damaged in a huge earthquake off Taiwan on Tuesday. "

i have been having a lot of trouble getting a decent connection since tuesday

Bjorn,

Sure is part of the problem. Still doesn't explain the current oddities with the forum itself such as being unable to post anything in the new Image gallery section. It doesn't have 'new post' button?? Huh

Sorry all for not catching onto this thread earlier. As far as I know, all users who are registered members of the Forum should be able to post photos in the new Gallery section. Bjorn's screen shots are accurate in terms of how to post. If anyone does not see the "Add A Photo" link to post photos in the screen shot then please let me know.

As for the timeout and slowness of accessing the Forum in general, much of that probably can be attributed to the earthquake in Taiwan which damaged a number of cables on the ocean floor and has affected internet access across Asia from what I understand.

Thanks, Bjorn and Marc. I just realised after Bjorn's post about the "G" button  Roll Eyes

Still it is a bit confusing because when you go to the section labelled "Image galleries" there is nothing there and unless you click on a small letter G you can look and look. That's me, anyhow....

Also, it seems like the three galleries that are currently on offer do not provide for posting images that were taken outside of the Kingdom or out of the SEA region. What do I do if I want to post a photo that is taken in Australia?

Thanks and Cheers

By the way Marc. Really sorry for posting my 2 posts in the general discussion area. I got confused by the new galleries, but it's all clear now. Please feel free to delete my posts or move them...

Happy New Year to all.

Good to hear all is back to normal. For a while, I was wondering if mark had not been caught "coyote" dancing at his local temple!

:-))))

Hi Alex.

I am glad you got everything sorted out now on using the new Gallery. I would have thought the Gallery icon button on the navigation bar would be easy for people to recognize and the mention of it again below by the old image posting areas would have made it easy to find as well. Obviously I was wrong.

I had also thought when I setup this new Gallery section people would know how to post images into it using the "Add A Photo Link" and find it a much more productive way of posting their photos rather than attaching them to message posts as before. I guess it will take some more time to fully catch on amongst Forum members. I plan to post a tutorial on how to use the new Gallery area for everyone.

Anyway, no need to move or delete your other posts as with a few other people who did the same as well. It is fine. In the future though I may need to disable attachment adding capabilities in the other areas of the Forum as I did in the old Image Posting sections in order to move people more towards posting in the new Gallery sections only.

Yes, I am sorry, since this Forum is focused on photography in Thailand mainly, I would prefer to limit the image posts to those photos taken in Thailand and around the SE Asia region :)

Best wishes...

P.S. I meant to say that studio photo you did that you are using for your Avatar in the style of the one I did was very well executed. Don't worry also about having copied my style a bit. I was not insulted. In fact, as the old saying goes, "Someone copying your work is the biggest form of flattery".

Thank you, Marc. I think if I took time to actually read the instructions of adding new images to galleries, I would not have a problem. I think it's just me. Very straigh forward once you know where to go.

Thank you for your comment on my studio shots. Hopefully I can visit Thailand sometime next year and then post more images on this forum, for the time being I will enjoy viewing work of others here. This is one of the best photography forum I've seen so far and it will no doubt grow. I'm getting a lot of very precious info here.

Best

Marc--I have noticed the last few days when I open up the site from my Bookmarks it says unavailable--when I repeat the action it opens right up on the 2nd try. Cache is emptied.

Thanks David.

As far as I know, all problems have been corrected since the upgrade of the Forum software this last weekend. The Gallery is back on-line again and new registrations are possible again, which were the two main problems that occurred once the upgrade was completed.

There should be no problems accessing the Forum at all and I have not seen the problem you are referring to occur on any of my machines.

I am also very happy to say that behind the scenes, the function of banning certain known spammer IP addresses to prevent the Forum from being spammed has been improved tremendously by the upgrade. One of the things taking so much time in the past was constantly having to monitor and delete spammer accounts. There is also a visual verification system in place now for new member signups preventing spam bots from being able to sign up for Forum accounts using an automoated process. Again, this saves me a lot of time having to monitor new user signups on a manual level. If all continues well then in the future we will see a lot less spammers getting through these new security barriers and I must say, so far so good!

Also, if all is working right, you should see any image posted within a message post displayed as a thumbnail (which is expandable by clicking on it) rather than as the full sized image. It helps to make viewing messages with images load quicker and require less scrolling to read the entire message thread.
