Am currently in Thailand, and severely jet lagged. Unable to sleep, the girlfriend and I went for a walk in the local market at 5am.

The resulting shots:

I was using my 5D & Canon 35mm f1.4 prime which I think worked really well together especially given that I was shooting at ISO 1,250(!!). The only downside being the 5D's noisy shutter - on a few occasions (as can be seen in the pictures) the person I was shooting heard/saw me before I could pap them :)

Some nice shots mahonyWeb.

I have a 35mm f2 (but with 1.5 factor) and I enjoy using it for street life pictures also.

Good stuff. Nice colors and saturation. Some of them look a bit over sharpened in Photoshop IMHO though.

I also wanted to suggest in the future that you post images to the new image Gallery which you can access by clicking on the Gallery icon on the menu bar. You will find the galleries are much more conducive for receiving comments as it is easier to post images individually, add a caption to each one, and then for people to comment on them individually.

As you can see, Alex said he loves #3, but I am not sure if he means 3 from the top or 3 from the bottom. That is why posting in the Gallery would be better I think.

Best wishes...

Nice to see your pics mahonyweb.  I like the one of the guy sleeping on his desk.  If only we all could do that at work... Wink

I thought this may be the case, but can't really tell on my 13" laptop screen.

Sharpening and saturation looks about right here, are they way off?

The colors are superb, great combo for street photography, definitely.  the vertical shots look a bit framed too tight,  I think all the details and the context in your shots of that session, wandering basically around town, work better shot horizontally, just as our eyes in such situation (wandering, looking for nothing special, yet alert) go left and right, rather than high and low. Unless you shoot a portrai/detail wich asks less feel from the context around. Also, that's the real challenge, get close, much closer, and damned the noisy shutter!  I'd say here, you are a bit in the middle in your approach, so we lack a bit of insight into the Chiang Mai nightly street/market life, but frankly, when I see what you can get without flash, it's really promising for the remnant of the trip.

Thanks KIE - I'll be sure to take your advice aboard :)

My family have now joined us over here, so I've not had chance to 'indulge' in photography. Below are a few of the better ones, but with relatively harsh lighting.

Really interesting, I hope you can wander a bit more,  here I like the distance between you and the people, it's achieved differently for each shot, and it seems to correspond to a respectful and unaggressive approach on your part rather than  psychological and physical distance. Chiang Mai tends to bring out the tourist in many of us photographers, and I think there is a potential in these few (so far) shots for you to cut thru that and simply shoot as you feel, quite unassumingly, which is always a quality in travel photography.
