Skies Of Sukhothai
«
on:
December 12, 2006, 04:51:31 PM »
I just returned from a 3-day photo trip with one of the local photographic societies up to Sukhothai. They had setup a few different things for us to shoot. Many of the shots involved monks. Attached is one of the more color and interesting of the shots. No retouching or enhancements or adjustments at all have been done on this image. It is straight out of the camera.

Awesome shot Marc, as usual. One place I always plan to visit but so far never had the chance. It's a pity, having been here for sometime but never been to Ayuthaya Province at all. Post more of this place in the forum.

Hi Marc,
Beautiful shot, especially considering no post-processing was done on the image. I was in Sukhothai last year and had quite a few photos from the park there, but unfortunately all taken in harsh daylight

I must go there one day later in a day. Have you been to a neighbouring province, Phitsanuloke? If not, I strongly recommend a visit. So many beautiful places to shoot there!

Thank you both.
Yes, I have been to Phitsanuloke a few times Alex. I remember it having that one famous temple and a brass Buddha statue casting factory which are worth a visit. Is there something else there of interest to see?
Jingle, this was shot in Sukhothai, not Ayuthaya. Maybe you meant to write Sukhothai, but the two places are two different kingdoms of ruins and are about 5 hours apart by car in case you did not realize.
Attaching another shot from there and may post something later in the Great Locations & Photo Taking Experiences section about Sukhothai in general.

Marc, sorry, I meant Sukhothai, got confused when posting the message. The second photo just wet the appetite to make the trip soon, however, I doubt if I can manage to match your photos, not even near I guess. Thanks.

Hi Marc,
I would be interested to know more about the organised trip you went on. I'm new to photography, though not new to Thailand, and interested in a few away days to some interesting sites.
Thanks,

Hi Marc,
You are absolutely right. There is that famous temple a full name of which is Wat Prasriratanamahatatworamahawihan, but it is commonly known amongst locals as "Wat Yai" - Big Temple. I have a shot from there taken last year:
Definitely one of the most beautiful temples I've been to.
I myself did not spend much time shooting in Phitsanuloke but there are many beautiful waterfalls. Sorry these photos are not good, just snapshots, but they give you an idea:
Cheers

Don't write this... I still would like to believe that you were lucky to be at the right place at the right time :)

Thank you Regis and sorry for giving away the truth behind the photo. :-X
In some ways pictures like this could be deceiving to others in the West who have never been to Thailand and might expect to come here and see for example a group of monks meditating in small tents at dusk right in the middle of the historical park in Sukhothai. A very unlikely find I think unfortunately although maybe it was common in the past :-\

Dear Everyone, Your Sukhotai postings couldn't have been more timely for me. Will be visiting the place right after New Year with family. Am checking out places to stay actually for 8 people. Just flew in from ChiangMai last night and if I get my act together, will be posting some Chiangmai shots today. Locals were complaining how hot Chaingmai is and I told them if you go to BKK now, you have reason to complain. After BKK, I felt the weather in Chiangmai to be mild and nice. Flying off to London, Paris and Edinburgh on Saturday with family. Will freeze there for sure.
