There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Photographythailand is growing and becoming quite useful. Scrolling through the Forum reveals much information unobtainable elsewhere. Stuff that's maybe not pertinent at the moment, but worth a study that can serve as a "ah-ha" or caution, later.

Perhaps it's a tad casual. That's what makes it attractive. I investigated two other web sites before. One was loaded with promotion and advertising, the other belongs to a friend that won't accept a photo unless it's accompanied by photo specs and camera model. Not attractive for folk who just want to show off pictures and ask questions.

Another item that makes Forum pleasant reading is force feeding of "real" cameras is seldom indicated. Anyone who has shelled out for a perfectly good "lesser" model doesn't want, or need to hear this. I don't.

The variety of photographic style is informative too with displays worth giving a try. My experience has been mostly random shots when I wasn't embroiled with technical stuff like service manuals and parts catalogs. I'm pretty good at best displaying the number of bolt threads protruding from a nut - and passport photos. Boring stuff compared to a Buddha with bird nest in ear, or a distorted long leg model.

Scrolling Forum encourages me to adopt different techniques. I doubt this will lead to more advanced equipment, but it certainly improves my use of what I already own and sustains a long time association with photography.

Thanks

Dear Fred, been thinking the same things, too.  Thanks for bringing this up.  Members are of wide range of experience levels, camera gadgets owned vary from the simplest to the sophisticated, yet one does not feel awkward asking simple questions.  May I add "respect" to your "tad casual" description of the forum?  Each one respects everyone else.  Or adding to the success of the forum is the administrator?  His time and effort in unselfishly sharing to everyone his knowledge?  Marc has set the tone of the forum and from my viewpoint, it is working well with everyone benefiting and enjoying it as well.  I find the forum to be a "pleasant" place as well.  Thanks to everyone.
