Hi Marc,
I too liked the classic colour contrast of blue and yellow in the first picture. In the second pic the yellow flowers with dark background and out of focus yellow flowers is also a nice effect.
I have a question: do you know how long the blooming season is? It appears, at least in the first picture, that most of the flowers haven't bloomed fully. I'm wondering when the best time would be to see when the majority of flowers are blooming?

Thanks Simon. Officially the blooming season is from Nov 15th until about the 10th of December, I think. If my dates are a bit off, then they are very very close to that. The area where the Bua Thong flower fields are is actually a part of Mae Hong Son called Khun Yuam on a ridge above called Doi Mae Ew Kaw. Downtown Mae Hong Son is still a good 2 hour drive from that area.
When I was there the flowers were definitely in full bloom, but how much is left now or will be if you wait much longer is hard to say. A lot of it has to do with rain and other weather conditions I think and probably the period of bloom changes year on year a bit. You know, global warming and all that good stuff...
If you are really keen to go this year though you will probably still see something, but if you rather wait until next year then for sure if you plan for it you will be there at the right time.
I am attaching a wide angle shot of one of the main fields shot from below looking up the ridge a bit to give you a better idea of what the place looks like.

Thanks for posting the wide-angled shot - what a great scene. Looks like the weather was perfect for you too. It would be a long way to go if there was rain or something to destroy those beautiful petals. I don't think I'll go this year but hopefully next year. I've never been that way before but I know with the Padung and other Hilltribes that there's a lot of interest.
