Taken in a hill tribe village on the road between Mae Hong Son & Pai. Questions and comments are of course welcome as always.

Lovely image, Marc. Another postcard shot from life of Thai people. Love it.

I viewed the photo quite a few times, trying to see if I could find anywhere in the image any room for improvement - none.  It's perfect picture - which I'm sure Marc is used to hearing it.  Love the sheen of the fabric folds (sleeves) and the seemingly sparkles dotting her top.

It is a great pic but I'm going to poopoo a bit. I think long focal portraits are not as nice as 50mm, or below. I do realize the choice is sometimes between long focal or nothing but I really don't like the absence of environment that you get with long focals. For me, the other two pics from your trip were much stronger, inviting one to linger much longer than this cute but one-dimensional shot. I'd still be very proud to have taken it Wink

Thank you all and Gregoire I agree. On the flip-side, the thing about shooting with long lenses though is that they allow you to really separate your subject from an otherwise distracting background. I purposely shot this one at F/4 for that reason and to blur out the distracting and messy looking village house in the background. As you said, you are left with an absence of the feel of the location, but your subject is more of a focal point that way for the viewer.

Anna, thank you as well and if I were to take points off it would be for the harsh light to dark area on the background which gives that area too much contrast. Probably the light is about 3-4 stops different in that area. It was the sun hitting the ground and not the shaded part that was underneath the overhang of the house which caused this. I tried as best I could to minimize the extent of the background becuase of this and that is another reason I shot it the way I did Gregoire.

Sometimes, or I should say, most of the time photography is a series of compromises and this was the compromise I made on this shot.
