Hi All - I just got back from a 5 day tour of Kun Yuem, Mae Hon Son, and Pai in the north. It was a nice trip overland, although the extreme winding roads are a bit trying on the stomach after a while. It is the Mexican Sunflower season (Dawk Bua Dtong in Thai) in the area at the moment and the flowers are in full bloom. The weather is cool and Pai is a great place to sit around in cafes and literally "chill-out" and escape the heat in Bangkok at the moment. Wish I had more time to spend there, but work prevails. I am attaching one of my shots from the trip and will post more later when I have more time.

this is just total perfection: the light on the girl, her outfit, the exposure on the distant mountains (you had to bracket there and compose in PS there, no?), and just the whole scene and composition. great work, Marc.

Beautiful picture. Lanna culture with its Burmese and Karen influences allow great pictures.
I remember to have good photographics times in Nan and Phrae.

Thank you Regis & Gregoire. Actually Gregoire, there was no bracketing or playing around in PS really needed. The backlight coming through the Buddha statue was enough to light up the girl's face and a reflector was used for a bit of fill light on the front of the girl. I just wish the girl was standing another 1 or 2 feet over to the right to give the composition a bit less of a scrunched up feel, but you can't always get it all the way you want it.

Beatiful shot. Somehow I missed it first time I looked at the forum a couple of days. The lighting from setting sun is just superb. The shot looks almost as if staged - a decisive moment!

Hi Marc,

Ok, for me, I think the distance and straight angle between you and the subject, though it does not always have to be, is creating here a psychological void, which, to speak summarily , evokes for me the idea of "taking a picture of...." rather than photography.  I am ready to bet that what you felt at this moment and in this place is not quite conveyed in the touristic approach to the subject, from your own inception.
