There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

The Chao Praya River is access to many places of much photo interest. Plus the river itself will keep a camera active.
A river trip uncovers many scenes not viewed from elsewhere. It's easy and simple too. The Skytrain that presently terminates (S6) at river is as good a place as any to start.
A city map helps too. River boat stops are many and often landmarks are displayed to make returning to intriguing places later easier. Some may unknowingly be short distance from where you read this.
These are commuter "cattle boats", so be prepared for a mob scene and an unsteady platform. But you can always debark, photo wander and catch another boat.
Alert and agile are a must. Timing is critical too, and you need both hands on occasion. Floppy stuff on the body can bring on grief. I recommend packing a light load and a familiarity voyage to end of line (Nonthaburi) first trip.
A wind proof hat is recommended. There is no shade on the river and glare from water can be just as intense as sky.
It's an adventure to exhaust batteries and fill memory.

Great tip Fred and the practical concerns about how to prepare, what to bring, and so forth are all also very useful to someone who has not shot along the river before.

If I had only one day to show BKK to someone, the Klong noi trip would have to be one to stick in the schedule. This is still one fo the great ways to get a feeling of what Thailand was all about before shopping malls. One note, though, do not go too late, because the public boats are very few on the way back, past 4.30 or 5PM. I waited 45 minutes for one, but had to resort to get back on the highway and catch a bus to the big Mango. And at 6PM, it might take a while. But all worth it, the pre-sunset light is really gorgeous, along the river.
