There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Removing Exif Data
«
on:

Can anyone tell me how to remove Exif data from my digital files. I use Fotostation as my thumbnail viewer, and the camera Exif data shows up in the same text box as the captions. I find this really annoying, because it means taking that much longer to review captions, thanks to the need to scroll down every time to get to them, and also because it's not information that I always want to put in front of a customer. The details of shutter speed, f-stop, lens, date etc are sometimes a useful reminder to me, particularly time of day, but I don't want to pass this on. In previous versions of Fotostation this data disappeared, after simple things like sharpening in Photoshop, but now I seem to be stuck with it. All suggestions gratefully received and tested.

Welcome to the Forum Adrian. You may want to post this to the Photoshop Corner section and ask Kurt to comment on it. He would probably know. One simple way is to open up a new blank file in Photoshop with the same resolution and PPI and then copy and paste the entire image from one file to another. The copy and paste method will not carry over the EXIF data to the new file, only the image. This of course is a manual way of doing it and is time consuming if you have to do many images, but at least it offers one solution.

Thanks Marc. That's so simple I don't know why I hadn't thought of it before, but as you say time consuming, and probably not something possible by batch processing. Useful though, when a limited number of shots need to be done. I will also take your advice and post my question on Photoshop corner. Thanks a lot.

Just in case you didn't get this info elsewhere...
There is a program called "Exifer" that allows you to manipulate exif info in images.
It's freeware I believe and likely easy to find with a google search.
Chris :)

Hi.
Thanks for the info, but regrettably Exifer seems to be a Windows only program, and as I use Mac, of no use, but thanks anyway.

Chris, Exifer is defunct and a little bit outdated for now. I personally prefer
this batch Exif eraser
before publishing photos on Flickr/Facebook/etc.
Marc, if you create a blank new image in Photoshop, then copy, paste and save image to get rid of Exif, keep in mind that JPEG re-saving leads to a small quality loss.

I use ExifCleaner as well. I agree, it works very good.
