There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Attached is another behind the scenes shot taken today on a shoot. It shows a couple of my assistants hamming it up while doing a lighting test as preparation for the real shot. In this shot the lighting is not quite what I ended up using in the final conceptual shot with the engineers, but it is pretty close. I may post the actual shot of the engineers a bit later. The concept was actually something I adapted from a very good book on corporate photography by Gary Gladstone. I hope you find the shot interesting.

Marc,

This has a very nice lighting. Did you have a flash attached to the computer monitor?  Cheesy

Thanks for the posting, Marc.  Sometimes I enjoy looking at behind the scenes shots more than the real reason for the photoshoot.  Anna

Thank you Anna.

Alex, the shot was actually taken in a full, brightly lit room, but the fast shutter speed on the camera avoided picking up any of the ambient light in the room such that it appeared dark. There was one flash in front of the computer monitor and one on the background with a red gel over it.

Marc,

Thanks for the posting and the explanation.  I too like the behind the scenes shots, especially with a bit of technical explanation, as I find them a nice way to learn.

This picture is very cool, and funny too. I bet the engineers' faces won't be as expressive as your assistants' Wink

Thank you Gregoire. Yes, you are right, the engineers portray quite a different mood in their shot. I will see if I can get permission from my client to post it on the Forum so people can see.

Thanks for the set up explanation, Marc. It means a lot for a newbie like myself. Looking forward to the engineers shot.

I guess it's the cupboards in the back that seem to bother me... or rather the space between the cupboards and the border of the photograph....

Thank you for the clarification on your comment. In all fairness Bjorn, photography in my eyes is about making diagonal lines and staging triangles in many cases to give photos more depth and dimension. A slight tilt helps to give an otherwise flat vertical composition with straight vertical lines have a bit more added dimension.

Or the tilt probably adds interest to otherwise not so interesting lines?
