Hi, Can anyone give me any information about obtaining Insurance for photographic gear in Bangkok?

I live in Bangkok, am not a professional photographer, am on a tight budget but travel a lot and have a couple of cameras and a few lenses.  Any info at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Simon.

As far as I know, the only way to arrange that is through a homeowners insurance policy under which you would insure the value of your personal possessions and you can insure things that are carried outside the home as well, but at a higher premium I think.

Thanks Marc - that was the info I had up until now too.  If anyone has organised that type of insurance in BKK I'd be happy to hear of that as well.

Simon.

P.S. Happy travelling.

Thanks Simon. Leaving in a few hours. QBE, AVA, AVIVA and other foreign insurers all offer it directly I think though their Thai branch offices or you can contact an insurance broker. Normally the premium is based upon a percentage of the value of assets insured, with higher percentages for items that travel outside the home. I hope that helps.

Simon, this is my first post in this forum.  I know if you are a paying member of Nikonians.com (silver is $25 I think) , they will offer you insurance on your gear through niksecure.com.  It's about $150 per year on equipment with a value of less than $5000.  Check it out, it might be just what you need.

Thanks... Actually, if I remember correctly, Niksecure will insure any equipment regardless of the make.  Good luck.
