There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Thanks bjorn.

I have found my pictures on other websites or even in one Thai magazine. So this is a reminder where it is coming from. Worst solution could be to use a watermark that would deform the picture.

Also once the pictures are copied from my website, there is no way to know their origin without this reminder.
It helps to bring visitors and show my work.

Cheers,

Great shots TW, and I really like the seach function on your website.

On the text point, IMHO, it is absolutely necessary. It is too easy to steal shots from the web. Posting images without some kind of identifier is basically giving the image away for free. As a viewer of said photographs, we just need to get over it and appreciate the photo, happily knowing that it exists unmolested on the hard drive of the photographer.

The rights thing is a difficult one, but I think this doesn't really help, anybody with a little photoshop skills could easily clone them out. I am creating a website for another photographer and run in to the same problem. Maybe someone else has a solution Huh

One solution could be to use a watermark that would deform a part of the picture, preventing it to be corrected with Photoshop.

One solution is to reduce the size of the picture but it is not great to show the pictures details.
Some Thai magazines use pictures 400*300 and you can easily see the pixels on the magazine.

The best solution is no website and no pictures! But it doesn't help to promote your work and prevent to share the beauties of countries such as Thailand and China.

I have seen some websites using flash animations in order not to use jpeg pictures.
Some other websites use a bad jpeg compression quality to discourage steal.

One issue is that many people believe that everything on Internet is free (pictures, text, music, video).

Awesome images!

Preventing right clicks helps somewhat. Anyone who really wants it can still get it by print screen and paste in photoshop. But this stops the casual grabbing. Adding text doesn't help much as people can very easily remove it but at least it does make them more aware that they are stealing. If serious about this then I believe you have to do what all stock photo sites do - add a central placed faded logo watermark that is much more difficult to remove. Even embedded watermarks (encoded in the file) can be removed by simple screen print/capture. Nasty problem though and it really seems like showing our work opens us to abuse.

All good solutions because I'm afraid the only 100% secure one would be a working judicial system that enforces intellectual property rights. But if Rolex and Lacoste can't get knock-offs off the streets of Bangkok (and they have armies of lawyers in big buildings on Sukhumvit trying to do just that), I think we can just as well forget about it.
