There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

I'd be into it if we had some theme or idea for taking photos together.
I'm not into just sitting in a bar talking. Though I'm not against ending up somewhere for a coffee or drink afterwards.

I think one of the best things about the internet is making friends. Not that we have to meet in group for that, but the idea of a meeting is a good one, i am sure it will come back as a topic until it is realized. Photo in group Roll Eyes? God forbid!!! (IMO)

I belonged to a photo club in Hawaii and really enjoyed it. We would organize outings, have mini photo contests ($1 entry fee, winner gets the pot; monthly theme), put together workshops, invite guest speakers to come and speak among other things. It was all very casual, but well done.

I can really see a great opportunity for something like this in central Bangkok once a month.

Good idea, I'm interested as well.  I also prefer to have some organisation but in a casual atmosphere.  Would be nice to have a face-to-face meeting where we could see who is really interested and then come up with some sort of plan of action according to the members of the group.

Great to hear there is some interest. I count 5 so far.

Anyone interested in meeting up this month? I am in Cambodia from the 20th to the 29th, but can meet any other time. What about location... anyone know of a good meeting place? Some place where we wouldn't have to compete with the ambient noise levels, open and light, and spacious enough so that if we end up with ten we could fit us all in...

I'm available this month except 20th -25th I'll be in Phuket.  Next month will be in and out of BKK as well.  Is this coming week too soon for an initial meeting?

As for a good meeting place hmm, will have to have a think about that...

There are a couple of local photography clubs in Bkk: Photographic Society of Thailand (PST) and the Siam Color Slide. These two clubs hold either monthly or bi-monthly workshops/meetings that feature photo shoots, lectures by professionals and photo competition, all within one day. Anyone can become a member but unfortunately it is conducted in Thai. But if you are only interested in studio shoot then this might be something that you might want to look at.  A few years ago, I remember having seen Peter Funke, a resident German photographer, participated in such workshops even though, I would imagine, he can't speak Thai, probably attending for the photo session only.  I am a member of both clubs but havn't been attending the workshops in the last couple of years due to some other priorities. My two satangs.

Kittiwat,

I wonder if they would be happy to have a clueless farlang like me turn up and sit amongst them without being able to speak more than a few words?

But I am interested in seeing what goes on, taking part in photo shoots to learn more and perhaps meeting some Bkk photographers who do speak English. I've been working on speaking Thai for quite a while now but progress is very slow. It seems even when I know what I'm saying that most people can't understand me anyway. For example, when I tell a taxi driver "bi klong san" he always thinks I want to go to Kao san rd. Other intonation problems abound.

Bjorn,

I'll be in CNX from 3rd Nov. til the 6th.  If you or any other Forum members in CNX want to hook up email me at simonparis@hotmail.com.

As an aside, do you know the best place to see the Yipeng Festival?  Somewhere easy to get to, with the traditional lanterns, etc.?

Simon, my wife is a tourguide, she knows a lot about these things, as soon as she is home I will let you know what are the best places to go for photography
(I would say somewhere next to ping river would be the place)
