For the past week I noticed a bird making a nest hanging on the clothes-line in my garage. I took these shots hiding behind the curtain a few feet away as there is no way I can take the shots without the bird flying away. The nest is not finished as yet so I am going to wait for a while to see how they will use it. I used a Macro lens with KM DSLR and a bit of PS. C&C are welcome.

Hi Bjorn, thanks for the comments, I really don't know what kind of bird it is. I was really thinking of using a tripod and remote shooting but the waiting is too long and besides I don't want the dog to trip the tripod which will be very costly. My wife was asking me to get rid of the nest soon. I have to disagree as I believe there is something new for me to see once it is completed. Never really saw one before so this is a good chance. It doesn't cost a dime to shoot too.

It's wonderful. Sorry your wife does not see it that way.

it's the olive backed sunbird, if you have time, wait for the male to arrive,(very photogenic) it has a beautiful dark blue chest,
and if you take the nest away, please do so before there are eggs in it.

Hi Bjorn/Kinginexile thanks for the comments, I went to shoot the nest again with the male bird doing the finishing touch and the female trying it out. In a week's time there might be something different so I am making this a series. The wife finally agreed to let me decide so I am really looking forward to more new shoots. I am not really looking at the quality of the photos but rather the sequence of preparation as this is a first for me. C&C are welcome.

Three weeks had passed and I went to peep inside the nest and found just one egg. Hopefully I will have the chance to see when this egg is hatched.

Jingle, wonderful series - especially when it won't cost you a dime as you said.  I lke the ones where the wings flutter.  I learned two things - about the kind of bird it is (thanks, bjorn slis) and that you are a "he".  All the while I thought Jingle is a girl, until you mentioned about a "wife".  tee hee.....

Looking for the hatching series.  Wish I had one by my window, too.  Mosquitoes, yes.

Hi Anna,
I went to Malaysia for 5 days and was unable to open my mail while doing shooting in Genting and KL. Thanks for the comments, this weekend I will go back to see the nest again and see if the egg had been hatched. We only stay in this place during weekends, maybe this is the reason why the sunbird built a nest in the garage knowing that there is nodoby home. It took me a lot of hours waiting to make these shots and it is worth it. I hope too that I can manage to complete this documentation till the end part and will post it here. Thanks again.

Went back to the nest today and the egg is already hatched. These are the photos I have taken hurriedly today during feeding time but it was rather difficult to get a clear angle. I hope there will be more next weekend to shoot.

Hi David,
Thanks, I am amazed as to how these sunbirds build their nest far from danger except humans. I am really lucky to have this one right in my garage. I was not prepared to do shooting of this sort so I just tried to make the best of the series of events from the start. I hope the baby bird will still be there next weekend for me to shoot more photos.

Went to visit the nest after one week and the baby bird has grown faster that I believe I won't be seeing it next weekend. These are the shots I have taken today after 3 hours of waiting. This is probably the end of the series. Thanks for viewing. Need to buy a better Macro lens and powerful flash.
