There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

I took a trip to Southern Laos earlier this year.  We stayed in an old palace (now with Thai owner) in the Champasak province.  There were some great things to see and do there and it turned out to be a good location for photos too.  THis was my first ever foray into "real" photography - I've been using a point and shoot for years.  I decided to go half way to a DSLR by getting a Sony R1.  I hoped that this would give me enough of a compromise until I can learn enough to make any further investment.  Anyway, here's a couple of the pics I took.  The first is kids playing in the Mekhong river at sunset and the second is a girl sat in the middle of a wet market.  She was just oblivious to all the goings on around her.

I really like the silhouette shot Mark. Nicely done. The diagonal lines of the small sand bars really gives the image good depth and dimension.

Hi, Mark.  I just posted a reply to Ellen (Mekhong River topic) regarding photography style.  I mentioned that sillouhettes and street people activities seem to interest me the most.  Then I opened "more from Laos" topic and saw your sillouhettes and street people!  They look good.  On the sillouhettes, did you sharpen them in Photoshop or is the brightness is caused by the sun's reflections?  Anna
