Here is a pic I took at the Grand Palace four weeks ago. I have never "published" a picture before so I hope this works.

What is quite clear is that I did mess things up since the picture looks over saturated and the white balance seems not at all like the original, wonder why? On the original the contrast between in focus area and out of focus area is also not as soft, I wonder if the original was all along somewhat out of focus and just not visible due to the big file size (6 Megs) or if the conversion to a 300K file just softened things up??

I like the framing, the figure of the rishi (I understand it's supposed to be the physician of the Buddha, a patron figure of healers kinda..) comes out well against the strong background hues by being dead central (and it's really the first thing we see, coming in, you duplicate that first glorious peek all visitors have), but I'd work on removing the bluishness of it, and given the time of day, your camera over-exposed the golden tones behind. I think the patterns and different lighting thru-out make for too busy a compo. A choice would be to diffuse even more the patterns thru a wider aperture (lower in F/# that is), as they'd lose more definition but keeping their shimmering flamboyance.

Thanks kinginexile, as you said, I tried to reflect that first impression you get when standing in the entrance of the Grand Palace, taken at F2.8 - 200 mm. The light on the day was so strange with scattered clouds and sun breaking thru at the time of the picture. Your advice is good and appreciated.
