Have any of you gone to see the Bhutan exhibition currently on at F-Stop galleries.  Having had an extended discussion with a photographer friend Dianne, who used to live here until June, I am keen to go, anybody been there, any advice?

Antonie--I have seen the exhibition and there were some very nice photos. A few stood out for me more than others, but it is usually that way--and to one person what may be great is to another person not very good, even if they are wrong.  Grin The one photo I can recall right away was the shot of that famous temple (not famous enough where I can remember the name) on the side of the mountain--what made this shot memorable were prayer shawls? on a line in foreground fluttering in the wind. Worth going to see, and the food is always good as well. Even the fruit juice drinks are real good--I usually get the "mind quencher" or something like that--lime juice and mint.

Agreed; the food is great!

I was just there last night. Impressive photography. My impression of his work (and now I forget his name, just remember that he is Austrian) is that he has captured the grandeur of Bhutan without overstating it. Bhutan is such a land of extremes that one needn't push too hard to show that on film, I think that the photography really captured the 'real' life of the region. Almost a snapshot quality, not meant as a negative but as a candid quality, with wonderful clarity, color and composition. Definitely worth the go.

Until when is the exhibition at F-Stop?  Planning to go to Bhutan and actually just started doing some research on it today.  First thing I discovered... expensive.  I'm sure after viewing the exhibition I'd say it will be worth the expense.

Hi Anna
It is on until October 17, here is the URL http://www.talisman-media.com/fstop/PAGES/upcoming.html
The F-Stop website states that it is future exhibition, this is wrong, it is current.

CW--The photographer's name was Josef Polleross.

Anna--Bhutan is expensive to visit, the reason being that they are appealing to the high end tourist as they want to keep tourism sustainable, without too many spoiling what they have come to see. Not always the case, but if one researches places with an expensive reputation, many times a cheaper way can be found.

There was an article in the BKK Post a few weeks back about Bhutanese students studying in BKK and how many of them look very much like Thais.

I've been to Bhutan three times. 2 Chomulhari treks and one cultural exploring the country side. I'd be happy to assist with any specific requests.
