Anna, I am very happy with my manfrotto 679b with a 484RC2 ballhead, I also have a Manfrotto Universal Folding Base so if I don't want to take my tripod I can use the monopod as a tripod. This is by far not as strong/stable as a real tripod but it does the trick. Another very good item that's light and easy to take on trips is a beanbag, you can easily make one yourself.

Thanks all for all the advise on the tripod and where to find it, that is what makes forums worth the time.  I will go to Fortune this weekend, was back at MBK the past weekend, did not know of the shop on the 4th floor, ground and 3rd floor did not have the Benro model I am looking for.

Hi Anna,

Yes I did and thank you very much.  I meant to send you a note back but I have been out of town for the last little while and was not able to check into the fourm.  You provided a lot of thougthful information.  I appreciate the time you took to write to me.  I have a lot to think about before I sign up for a class in Jan.  Fortunately, I have some time.  Thanks again.
