There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Ah, gee. Yet another one to add to the buy list. And will need a Jeep to go with it too.
Since that's for a Hasselblad I wonder what the equivalent focal length is on a DSLR. My guess is they had to spend an incrediable amount of money to just get something like the 1200mm Canon in focal length.
Said it's for wildlife but I bet it's the CIA myself...

For comparatively less money I guess one could buy the Canon 600mm lens which, on a DSLR like the 30D that has a 1.6 crop factor, would give you a focal length of over 800mm. It is still 30% less focal length than the Hasselblad 1,200mm lens, but once you take into account the 35mm equivalent it probably works out to the same thing. You could also use that 600mm with a 2x extender and the 30D and you are way over the 1,200 focal length. Of course there will be some sacrifice in sharpness, but would be hard to notice it under most applications.

And then you need to treck for hours or take hot air balloons just to get far enough from what you want to shoot

You also need a chain-hoist to carry the lens for you

I think it's the constant f4 which makes this such a monster.
Imagine the bokeh 1700mm @ f4
