There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Anyone know where I can get Diafine in Thailand? I got D-76 at Shine Photo my last time in Bangkok, but at room temperature, it's 90F/32C.

It's been 8 years since I gave up my darkroom but at the time I was compounding my own
Diafine. Just a few bulk chemicals needed: elon, hydroquinone, sodium sulfite and potassium bromide for the
first bath and sodium carbonate for the second -- if I remember correctly. It can also be compounded
to give a normal ASA rather than the ~1600 of the original.
Here's a formula I found on google (the t is teaspoon, T is tablespoon):

 A:
Hot Water (125 Deg.F.) - 750cc
Sodium sulfite, anhydrous - 35g (1T + 1.5t)
Hydroquinone - 6.0 grams (2t)
Phenidone - .2g (1/8t)
Sodium Bisulfite - 6g (1t)
Water to make(distiled) - 1000cc

B:
Hot Water (125 Deg.F.) - 750cc
Sodium sulfite, anhydrous - 65g (3T)
Borax - 20g (1T + 1t)
Water to make(distiled) - 1000cc

Best results I got were on 6x6 Plus X rated at 250 and printed with a cold light head.

Good luck,
Jeff

yikes! thanks, Jeff, but I think I'm too much of a chemistry boob to handle that. Points, though, for using the word "compounded." Still a great visual to my American ears. Wink
