There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Hello,
I'm new here -- just signed up today. I'm currently living in Bangkok, but originally am from the US (NYC). I love photography, and carry at least a pocket sized camera with me wherever I go. I have a Canon EOS 10D, but sadly I find it too heavy to carry everywhere. I've also been playing with underwater photography recently, which has been a lot of fun.

I keep a daily photo diary: http://diary.00ff00.com/

Does anyone else keep a photo diary/photoblog online?

Hi Cee, good to know more members joining this Forum. You have a very impressive Daily Photo Diary and will look forward to see your underwater photography posted  in this Forum soon. Is that you taking the close up shot?

Hi Cee,

Checked out your diary and site. Great variety of photos over last while and many that reminded me of recent events around Bangkok.

I was going to ask you about your choice of names 00ff00.com but when I saw that you had a "style" option called that and it was all green and black I figured I had it right that you were so much a computer nerd that you named it in a cryptic version of "green" or "full green". Oh ya, I spent many years as a sofware engineer writing code for windows before travelling and ending up in Bangkok. Nice to see someone around here running Linux as well. I run it on a few servers I administer and one desktop machine here but unfortunately most of the software I use is still under windows... well, it's in my future to force myself completely off windows. It's such a bad habit. ha ha.

Well, welcome! I've been on photographythailand for a whole day now but the more the merrier. I enjoyed looking through your photos. I have a site with mine at www.photomiraculous.com but it's not a blog or diary, just a bunch of my shots in a gallery mostly visited by friends and family.

Chris :)

Hello,

jingle52648: I have some underwater shots already up on my website: http://diary.00ff00.com/category/nature/underwater/

And yes, that's me in the photo. Obviously I didn't take that shot, however. :)

Chris: Yeah, the 00ff00 is green, I'm a bit of a geek I guess. I like that color because it reminds me of old terminals. I'd recommend weaning off Windows as soon as you can. I finally deleted my Windows partition in 2001, and haven't looked back since. Altho, my latest Mac laptop is running MacOS (for the first time, my previous two ran Linux!). Linux can be a pain in the butt at times, as I'm sure you already know. But at least it's fixable. :) You can always run VMWare or Wine if there is a certain application you can't live without (Photoshop, maybe?).

Thanks for saying hi!

Hi Cee--Welcome to the forum. I myself am originally from NYC, was born there as well. Moved away some years ago as I hate the cold weather. There is some great stuff underwater here in Thailand, and also closeby. For biodiversity the Philippines and Indonesia are ground zero-- just awesome. Here is a brief sampling of what you can see u/w in Thailand.

Wow, David, nice shots! Where in Thailand did you take them? I'm assuming somewhere near the Simmilans? I have yet to take my camera to the Andaman side, so far just to Koh Tao. Hopefully soon I can head over to the other side for a trip.

Cee and Jingle--Thanks for the compliments. The shrimp and the fish were from the Similans, and the nudibranch was taken on a wreck near Khao Lak--sadly after the tsunami the wreck is no more. IMO the best diving in Thailand is in the Similan and Surin Islands, and if one heads up into the Mergui Archipelago of Myanmar there is some great stuff as well--and a lot less crowded than the Similans which has become like Times Square on New Years Eve much of the time.
