There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

NOTE: Sorry I'd rather post this in Great Locations, but Marc hasn't made that forum image-post ready yet.

Taken last Oct 2005 just as the weather started turning dry approaching peak season, the Andaman sea was already crystal clear offshore. This shot was taken on the Koh Gai/Poda islet in the late afternoon with the limestone cliffs of Railay & Phranang Bay in the far background (30mins by boat). Near sunset so the backdrop cliffs were lit beautifully. First pic better depicts the area.

The unique feature of this locale is that the during the day, the tide covers this thin strip of beach from both sides, but as the tide recedes, it leaves this sandbar separating the waters and connecting the small islands. Referred to as "talay waek" in Thai. This place is sometimes called Miracle Beach (something coined by the Tourism Authority of Thailand I suspect but it hasn't took yet).

Fortunately there were few people there when we arrived (close to sunset) allowing us most of the beach to ourselves.

The only other "talay waek" I know of in Thailand exists at Koh Nangyuan off of Koh Tao. Another stunning location. Enjoy.
