There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

For once I got one which looked abit desent and when sharpend in photoshop
to 125px at 1.3 the lottery lady walked by. The cloud was abit dull and it was
only after applying a blue photo filter to brigthend up the sky abit and 30 mins of
brushing away that I found out that it is not possible to sharpend an image in
photoshop which has a filter to it.

The odd DTAC totem pole has been removed and some trees replaced just to
make it look abit natural around here... and then I cropped it to try focus on the
1/3 position. That wasnt too hard.

The place is called Hin Ta Hin Yai on the south coast of Samui. It's supposed to mean
man and woman genitials in the local lingo. The rocks are natually shaped apparantly.
The story goes that these two people got into land after capsizing many years ago
and when they passed away their spirits turned into rocks.

Any comments welcome.

Hi Canon,
another nice shot. Were you trying to sharpen the blue filter layer?... this might explain why you couldn't sharpen the main image. I find myself returning to nice scenes like this armed with a tripod... especially if getting the exposure right the day before was tricky. That way I can shoot a shot exposed for the sky and one for the foreground and merge the two later. I like the composition of your photo and - I hope you don't mind- had a play with it in photoshop to change the lighting and get some sky back.

I've oversharpened it for the web unfortunately and have deleted the original psd file, but I hope you like the different elements I tried to bring out in this picture:

Hi acland

Thanks for helping me out with the layers. As you noticed the morning was indeed very dull
and overcast and I did take this image with a tripod at 1/80 and 5.6. I just wanted to pep
up the sky somehow to bring out abit of blue sky.

Do I get this right that you were the Nikon D100 guy with the tripod out there before
me and the army of thai visitors ruining my video shot of the never showing sunrise??

I'm stuck in Australia at the moment so it wasn't me in Samui, but I was doing the same thing in the cold at a beach here. Sat there for an hour or so but the sunrise was pretty unspectacular.

Hi acland

It would have been a small world had it been you but you never know. This spot I think is good for
an unobstructed sunrise view over the ocean however it gets abit run over by tourist the like.

If you someday get here please let me know. If you decide to go out there I can also recommend
another spot just around the corner of the rocks. To get there, turn right at the sign leading to
Sunrise Bungalows just before you walk on the narrow road to the main rocks.

Enjoy your day.
