There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Here is a picture of a project I am doing on a local Muay Thai gym. I used a simple studio light (flash type with umbrella) to light this young boxer with his teacher on the ropes.

Great shots, David.  Do you ever gel your flash on shots like this?

Thanks Kurt. The one of charlie, the boxer was all natural light no flash. The others were with the studio light umbrella. What does gel your flash mean?!

David--I am with Kurt that these are nice shots. Love the one of the kid with the guy on the ropes in the background, and also the one with the guy's hand in focus but his face out of focus. As far as gel on the flash there are different color gel filters one can put on a flash head to warm or cool the color, and I believe whatever area of the photo is lit by the flash will be that given gel color. As with so many things, Photoshop can do a lot of this.

The lighting and comp on the first shot are great. Good work, and I'd like to see more of this series.

Thanks for the interest in these shots. This is another portrait of Charlie and its one of my favourites as its a completetly natural response to me calling his name. He's had his pic taken many times posing on fight nights and so know whats he wants to look like. The collection can be seen on my site here.. http://www.pbase.com/dravlinbood/the_town_in_town_muay_thai_gym
and there are some in black and white here..
