I am shooting an assignment at the moment for Wallpaper* magazine and one of the venues I was given to shoot is this small massage place in Soi Convent off of Silom Road called Reun Nuad.

It is an old house converted into a massage place. Very popular with tourists because it has been written up a lot, but has such a relaxing atmosphere. Traditional Thai massage is not expensive either. Definitely worth a visit if you want to unwind on a weekend in Bangkok.

Attached is a shot of one of their private rooms I shot today which has a private outdoor garden shower.

Very nice! They'll be overrun with forum photographers now!
So how did you shoot this? It has a really natural airy feel -  additional lighting?

Thanks. That's OK, I am sure the owner will be pleased about that. In fact, I will be there patronizing the place on Sunday myself.

Just natural lighting and a tiny bit of remote fill flash in the room. I also layered part of another darker exposure for part of the garden which got a bit overexposed in areas where the sunlight was hitting direct.

Nice shot Marc--I have walked by this place many times and for some reason never did go in, until today. But what did you do to get a room the size of the one in your photo?  Grin  My room was tiny, and my big feet were pushing out the wooden curtain at the end of the bed. It was a bit more than I usually pay for a massage, but the ambience really was nice and the massage was wonderful so I would go back if in the area.

Thanks Dave. I was there today too. Now I know whose feet I almost tripped over as I was leaving Shocked

They have I think 3 of those sort of rooms, but they charge 200 Baht extra if you want a private room like that. Worth it I think to be able to get your entire body into the room, no?

I agree though, great atmosphere and the girl who massaged me took the approach of a mechanic who was working on an old car that needed some much needed repairs.

I went here a few weeks ago with my fiancée and her sister. To be honest we weren't overly impressed - each of us finding that the masseuse/masseur too often pressed on bone instead of tissue.

Maybe we hit on a bad day, but each of us to came away with the same impression. Sad to say, I wouldn't recommend it  Embarrassed

Nice photo, Marc. May have to pay this place a visit, next time I'm in BKK.
