There have been discussions about buying equipment in Hong Kong to save cost and I once posted a question myself about a couple of particular shops there.

It should be noted though that if you buy certain brands of equipment during your travels to Hong Kong, and you live in Thailand, you may have an issue about getting warranty service coverage here in Thailand.

Something worth adding to the equation if you are considering buying equipment outside of Thailand in general, since many products don't carry international warranties.
