Having bought several items of - mainly Nikon - camera / lenses etc, and having compared prices in several other countries during the decision making process, I'm now of the view that if you live in Thailand, buy in Thailand. The warranty and after sales service is just that much easier, especially if it is a major brand with full service facilities in Bangkok (like Nikon). And unless you are fluent in Thai, I wouldn't recommend trying to get a non local brand serviced !
When it comes to where to buy, be aware of places that may offer good deals today, but may be hard to find tomorrow. For sure we pay a bit of a premium to buy from the Brand Named Outlet, but if Nikon are anything to go by, they'll be there tomorrow, stand by their products and speak good English.
Look upon any extra cost over what you might buy somewhere else or somewhere 'cheap' as an Insurance premium.

I fully agree with you, I was told by a friend who is an authorized agent of an international brand of camera that they give special attention in fixing problems on cameras bought from them and little on purchased overseas. The reason is that they can not afford to have disappointed buyers which will affect their overall sales not to mention their reputation. Whereas, for cameras bought elsewhere, they have all the reasons to tell you to have it fixed where you bought it if they can not do it, it also takes longer to have it fixed plus it will cost you more. I understand other countries do the same thing too if your camera is bought from somewhere. So if you are in Thailand, buy it here, you'll be glad you did. Jingle52648
