There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

A Gem Right In The Old City Of Chiang Mai

One of the most unsuspecting locations to photograph in Chiang Mai I discovered is a wonderful old temple right along the moat called Wat Pa Pao. It is one of the lesser known temples and often not highlighted on the tourist maps.
In the center of the small temple grounds is a wonderful, old Burmese style looking temple with dragons shaping the stair cases around it. It has turned a sort of dark black color from its age which adds to the atmosphere of the place.
The afternoon back light can be very nice offering a good opportunity to photograph the back side of the temple.

Marc,
Your reference to the Wat Pa Pao temple raises some questions regarding my trip, next month, to Bangkok and the south.
Firstly is flash photography allowed inside the temples or is this a mark of disrespect?
Secondly, I am still undecided whether to take my E500 flashgun. My A200 has a short range built in flash which is mostly useless especially since I don't like using flash unless the head is aimed only indirectly at the subject (bounce off ceiling or walls). However, the flashgun is as heavy as big as the camera itself. It will double the bulk. Do I need it?
