Hi Marc,

Thanks for opening up a site like this for photophobics like myself.. there is already
alot of good suggestions and advises here I can use to make my life easier...
I generally shoot outdoors and really is a newbie in all it's sence with a canon
350D. Some friends told me this shoot looks great - and I would just like to hear
your or others critics.

Welcome to the forum Canon.

It is a very nice shot indeed. Aesthetically it is a great photo, but it has a couple of technical concerns unfortunately.

One is that the horizon is slightly tilted to the left. The other is that the sun falls a bit too close to the edge. It should be within the 1/3rd zone from the right edge.

Hope this helps...

Hi Marc,

Thks for yr advise and appraisal, I've corrected the horizon with the measure tool but obviously it looks
different now after having to crop again... will keep the 1/3 zone in mind next time - many thanks again.

Your welcome. In Photoshop you can use the rotate canvas function to fix the horizon problem. I took your photo and rotated it clockwise 2 points and then re-cropped it and it seems to have fixed the tilted horizon problem, but unfortunately it brings the sun even closer to the edge after cropping. Best wishes.

I love your photo. I hope you don't mind, but I am experimenting with curves alot these days so I added just one curve layer to your image. Punched up the contrast with a simple S curve and then in the blue chanel of the curve I really pushed it up to bring out the blue. Then I did a reverse sort of S curve in the Red channel to bring some of your reds out. I know the colour is a bit over the top etc but I kind of like what it has done to your sunset.

Hi Arcland,

Yeah I like yours better also, great saturation maybe a tick too blue but what the
heck.. next time I will just have to get up abit earlier, or perhaps make a tighter
curve when I go to the beach. Thanks your comments.
