There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Photography Classes at Alliance Francaise School in BKK

Last night I started my first day of class in Advanced Photography at Alliance Francaise. Cedric Arnold is the teacher. I took Basic Photography under him as well. Good teacher. The classes are every Monday, 5:30-8:30 p.m. Coming Monday being a holiday, the second class will be the next next Monday. So for those interested, there is still time to join. He also teaches Basic Photography on a different day. School is on Sathorn, close to Banyan Tree. Tel 662-670-4270.

The classes run through June. 4,800 baht. I come all the way from Nonthaburi every class but worth the long haul for someone who needs help on photography. Photo trips and assignments are part of the curriculum.

Dear Stet, Nope, no printing which is probably good because there is a ton of other lessons being taught. My brain could only handle so much in a given time. Tonight one of our Forum members, David Procter, attended the class for the first time. Nice to put a face on the name. I can tell this is going to be a lot of learning and a fun class. Happy with the teacher. :) Anna

Is Cedric Arnold teaching the class you are taking? He is a nice guy and a good friend. He and I were hanging out of a helicopter together last year shooting aeiral photos of the Phi Phi islands.

Yes, teacher is Cedric. I took his Basic Photography last year. Very happy with it and I know his Advanced Photography would be as good. I hope he will teach Black and White Photography. Do you know anybody, by any chance? In English. Thanks. Anna

Hello Anna,
Thanks for the info on the photography courses at Alliance Francaise. I've just sent an email to them asking about the next course offerings. Do you know if these courses are part of a diploma or just one-off courses? Again, thanks for the info. It's not easy to find photography courses in Bangkok.

Dear Geoff,
If you had sent an email, I would follow it up with a phone call. I, and some, had trouble getting the information we needed. You have to be persistent on them sometimes. One time I emailed, phoned and finally faxed my questions. Their phone number is 02-670-4200. I was talking with couple photo classmates today and they, too, were saying they're pleased with the photo classes. My one wish is that the school would offer more photo classes - Black and White, Interior Design Photography or some other aspects of photography. I called all over the place (Bangkok) but they are all taught in Thai. Anna

Hi, Geoff, I got through Alliance Francaise after several attempts. I talked to Khun Ankara of the Arts Dept. Cedric is not teaching until January 2007. A Thai who speaks English is currently teaching in his place. Khun Ankara mentioned that they added fashion photography class. I'm sorry I forgot to ask about your question about diploma courses. Her phone number is 02-670-4200 ext. 234. Don't bother checking their website. I just did. It is not updated. Hope this helps. Anna p.s. If anyone knows class in English on Black and White or Interior Design or just any form of photography class.....please let me know. Thanks.

Hi Anna,
At Alliance Francaise do they typically teach in English, Thai or French? It sounds interesting and while I know a bit of French (Canadian, eh), and even less Thai, I really could only learn properly in English, and was wondering about that.

They teach in three - English, Thai, or French. I think you will benefit most if you take it in English. Anna

Hi Anna,
Would you please inform me the schedule of the beginner photography class, as you mentioned in your previous post? I would like to join the class, too if possible. And what is the requirement? should we have DSLR, or, will any camera do? I sent an e-mail to Khun Ankara but no reply until this time.

Agus, as I've mentioned in my previous posts, it could be a challenge getting email response from them. I suggest call K. Ankara directly, 02-670-4200 x 234. I know they have one starting in October but I am not sure if Cedric Arnold (English teacher) would be back from his time off. Good luck.
