Before reading that yesterday I was like  Head Scratch Why would anyone pay premium for a 24-70 II if it is just lighter and still doesn't have IS? It sums up why pretty nicely.

I was also quite shocked to read that lens is going to cost $2,300 when the Origonal one was half that price and very sharp already. In fact, I use that lens far less than the 24-105mm lens since its reach and focal range is much less. One would be better off buying the newer 24-105mm lens instead. It has IS as well and is quite light too.

Canon's EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM lens will cost about $2,300.

For me that is a lot of money! I sold my 24-70 a few years ago.

Marc I remember a while back you seemed very disappointed with the 24-105, have you reconsidered since then?

Yes, I think the older 24-70mm that I have now was around $1,000 give or take.

The 24-105 still has some short comings in terms of vignetting, but its manageable. I still use it, but if I don't need so much zoom and the work I am doing is very important then I use the 24-70 lens to be sure of sharpness and no vignetting.

I had thought though that they had re-released the 24-105mm lens with some quality improvements and so forth. Kind of like a new generation version. But I am not sure if my memory is serving me correctly.
