There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Interesting specs. A bit of a bummer about the low light limitation, but you can't have it all.  Rolling Laugh
I think if I was in the market, I would be opting for the D800E. (D800 with low-pass filter removed)

The ability to shoot two frames in a single shutter release seems pretty cool. As for HDR, it just saves a step of doing it myself, which I would prefer, but not everyone is the same.

The removal of the low pass filter is very interesting but none of the pro photographer reviews (online at the moment) seem to mention which they are using (800 or 800e). Its a bit of confusion for me which one I should be getting because the "bad" sample on the nikon site showing the moire on certain shots is really "bad".

Anybody like to recommend which one would be best suited for a "nature photographer"?

Gregg, how much more low light would you like? i am sure this cam will handle 3200 and 6400 very well, 12800 and 25600 is pushing it but may be still can use... you wanted 125'000?

Paul, there are two Nikon sites with sample pics one from 800 the other from 800E unfortunately not the same shorts, do difficult to compare. In nature you have hardly any regular patterns that would cause moiree, so you probably could savely go for the 800E but when i compare the shots i downloaded form the Nikon sites then i have difficulties to see the difference between 800E and 800... maybe need to wait a couple months until more shots have been taken and someone has done a comparison.... anyway i think the cam will arrive in Thailand not before May... so still time to see and evaluate

no, nor would I want 204,800 of the D4. It seems from the reviews I have been reading, 6400 is about the highest usable iso.

You can see the moiree difference between the D800 and the D800E on the kimono picture on this page: http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/dslr/d800/features01.htm#a12

Yannick, yes that gave me a lot of concern - I don't photograph birds (in nature) but it seems one obvious nature example were moire could be a significant issue without the filter fitted as repetitive patterns appear in feathers.  Puppy Dog Eyes

bjorn- I knew someone would ask so i went back over the pages i looked at, but couldn't find it. I didn't actually see photo's, it was part of a review. I was looking at everything from dpreview to threads on forums like Photography on the Net that had links to reviews.

ISO up to 6400 is definitively usable if you know how to expose, above... it gets dicy but with noise ninja could be managed

Technically put so even I can understand it......

"ISO. In my opinion, from the results I achieved, the ISO performance is about equal to a D3. It is in no way a D4, and wasn’t intended to be. It’s not a D3S either. You should expect it to perform close to the D700 and D3 with respect to ISO.  "
