For an art project I'm trying to find a cheap digital camera (need more than one) that shoots 1:1 / square images.
Anybody got any tips ?
thanks

I never heard of any sensors that have a 1:1 aspect ratio. You might be out of luck unfortunately. I guess worst case scenario is you just crop the images in post.

Nikon P5100 has a 1:1 mode, but I would assume it is just cropping in camera. As Marc said, I don't think any camera has a native 1:1 ratio.
Edit: after a bit of searching, it appears 1:1 ratio is common in medium format cameras.
So there goes "cheap."

Yes, Hasselblad medium format film cameras are 6x6, so a 1:1 aspect ratio, but I think once you put a digital back on a Hasselblad then it becomes 2:3 and ends up cropping out part of the Hasselblad native view plane/frame. I remember in the past having to put an insert into the viewfinder to show me where the crop would be when using the Hasselblad with a digital back. The new medium format cameras that are made as native digital MF cameras I assume are all 2:3 or 4:5 aspect ratios or something like it, but I could be wrong.

The Leica S-2 has a sensor that is at 35x40mm almost square, but there goes affordable and cheap...

I need about 10 to 15 and use them for 3 days so I think I'll go Hasselblad.....
Seriously, for this project I need more than 1 and in needs to produce 1:1 images without postprocessing, I'll buy them for this 1 month project only so.....cheap

Cheap is not exactly what Hasselblad standd for, each digital Hassi is above 10k.
Can you not do it with a normal cam and automated cropping?

Panasonic Lx5 has a 1:1 setting. I had a Lx3 and I think it one too; perhaps a used one is available.
