The Canon Rumor Mill
«

It seems the Canon rumor mill is active again with a bit of info accidentally published on the Canon site. Rumors are of some new major product announcements within 2 weeks. As usual just rumors with nothing confirmed, but more here if your interested:

It does seem the next 5D is slated for more likely 2012, unfortunately.

He talks about stock, but the 5dMKII had dramatic stock reductions as well and low pricing for the last month. Who knows...maybe both bodies.

That would be great if they put both out together as you suggested. I wouldn't hang my hat though on any of the rumor mill's assumptions on which body is coming out. The only thing that seems eminent is that some sort of major announcement is forthcoming and its only about 5 days away. So we should know soon enough. Let's see...

You never know as the Nikon rumor mill is also in full flow for an announcement on the 26th - rumor is the the D800 rather than the D4 - which goes against Nikons history of releases which has followed Canon's with the big "pro" camera coming first out of the blocks. One thing for sure, both their marketing strategy people will be trying to out do each for the rest of the month.

I agree Paul. I just hope the announcements aren't disappointments being only more new entry level DLSR models to further drive the consumer level of the market. Unfortunately the top of the range models aren't where these companies really make their money.
Also, I believe one of Nikon's main factorIes in Ayutthaya was flooded and shut down because of the floods in Thailand so I hope that doesn't set them back on announcements and the rolling out new model cameras in the near future.

Unfortunately on the Canon side it seems the announcement could be neither the long awaited 5D Mark III or the 1DS Mark IV according to this:
http://www.canonrumors.com/2011/10/the-new-eos-cr3/
So it sounds like another high frame rate camera targeted at sports photographers and journalists based on that information.
But that hardly makes any sense though as it would be a replacement of the 1D Mark IV, which is in fact newer than the current top of the range 1DS Mark III. The Mark III would appear to be first in line for a replacement in the 1D series, but I guess maybe not.
Tuesday should tell for sure, but the current rumor speculation sounds misguided to me and maybe that is even part of Canon's strategy to circulate some false rumors until they are ready to announce something in order to maximize the impact of their PR event with more "ooooos" and "ooooohs".

You would think that since they are getting rid of the APS-H sensor and amalgamating the 1D series, they would improve the 1Ds, not take a step backwards.

@Hans--try the link again, works for me. @Paul--agreed, to have models in the stores soon after being announced would be nice but never works that way.
Usually a good few months before availability depending where in the world one is located, then out of stock and backordered as everyone wants one.
