There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Hi,

I need some ideas on what photo backpack to choose for my trip to Thailand. I am planning on visiting Bangkok and then travelling up north. I have Canon 5d MkII, 24-105L mm, 50mm and I am planning on getting 70-200f4 L without IS plus Metz flashgun. I want to use it as a day pack since I want to do some light trekking as well.
Thank you for your suggestions,
Marek

If you stop in Bkk first it might be worth checking out fotofile ( http://www.fotofile.net ) they have fotofile branded camera bags.
I use some of them and they are pretty good and inexpensive.

There is also a shop in Ladprao area called Hung & Na. They used to carry a lot of inexpensive Lowepro copy bags I think made in Vietnam that are quite inexpensive. It is a small shop opposite from Central Ladprao Shopping Mall on Phaholyothin Road.

In MBK there are also a number of stores that opened up on the 5th floor which are carrying just accessories like bags, but those will all be the branded stuff like original Lowepro and Crumpler and of course more expensive.

As for which bag to use, there are many styles so first you have to choose the style. One of the Lowepro Slingshot bags might be a good choice.

Hi, one of the easiest and most convenient ways to go about this is actually to buy/sew/make a bag insert, which you can switch from bag to bag, depending on your shooting situation. Few can argue that the comfort of a well-made backpack beats those made by Camera-Bag Manufacturers.
Second, you, and I, alongside every thief on this planet can tell and identify what camera bags look like. And if unsure, then look for the HUGE logos which spell out C-A-M-E-R-A on it. Here's the problem, if camera manufacturers don't make camera bags look like camera bags, then the average population won't pay at Camera Bag Prices. Hence, the look. However, once you remove the "Camera Bag Look", then you'd only end up with a padded bag.

Hence, the rationale is simple. Use bag inserts. That way, you can custom-make/ tailor your own camera-bag insert, and transfer it from bag to bag whenever the shooting "dictates" the type of shooting you do. For those without a die-hard camera-bag fetish, use ultra-cheap second hand bags which you can buy anywhere, and stick the same well-padded inserts, and none will know the wiser....

Bon Voyage
