When i run into a site like that, I just paste the link into Google, and then click "translate this"
It's not bad at translating and it gets almost all the sub contents too.

I want to update everyone on my Hong Kong lens buying experience. Yesterday I went down to Mongkok to buy this Canon lens I have been talking about. I started with Man Shing (By the way, you can take the MRT in Hong Kong to Monkok Station and it is about a 1 block walk from the MRT station or less, depending on which exit you get out from the station at).

Man Shing is a big camera shop. Very modern, with lots of sales staff behind the counter. They have all the stock in an on-line computer system and there is nothing dodgy about the store. All things purchased there come with a Canon Hong Kong warranty which is good only in Hong Kong, Macao, and Mainland China. Although it is not an international warranty, what they are selling is not gray market stuff as I originally suggested. It all comes with a local Canon warranty.

Anyway, I went to Man Shing and asked about the lens. They told me they had no stock. I asked if their sister store Wing Shing on the other side of the road would have it in stock. He said "No. Same store. No stock". I said OK and then tried to engage him with a few questions about other possible store in the area. He wanted to have nothing to do with me at that point and was basically rude to me since I first entered the shop. Thumbs Down Vomit

I left and went next to a shop called Broadway, which is a very large electronics store with many branches in Hong Kong. They don't just sell cameras, but cell phones, laptops, flat screen TVs, and all kinds of other electronics. They said they carry the lens, but were also out of stock, The sales staff, a young guy, was friendly though and I asked him what the price would be when it was in stock. He gave me a price which was about the same price as the lens would cost in Thailand. So there would be no savings there.

Next I crossed over the road to Fortress. Fortress was just like Broadway. A big electronic store with multiple floors, just like Broadway. They also didn't have any stock on it. After that I was heading to to Citicall. Citicall is again like Broadway and Fortress, big electronic stores selling cameras, computers, cell phones, and everything else. As I was walking towards Citicall, I see the Wing Shing Shop, which is the one I listed above and Gregg gave an English translation link for. So I thought I would just go in there and ask if they have the lens anyway, just in case, even though the rude man at Man Shing, their sister store, said they had no stock. Sure enough, Wing Shing had the lens. Two Thumbs Up

It cost the equivalent of 61,000 Baht, versus almost 73,000 Baht in Thailand. Brand new, in the box, never opened. There was no negotiation on price. Credit card or cash, same price. Maybe if I were Chinese I would have been able to negotiate a bit. But the price was already a lot lower than in Thailand and I didn't have a lot of time to spend there.

So I never made it to Citicall. Also, worth nothing is that Broadway, Fortress, and Citicall are big chain stores and have multiple branches in Hong Kong. Man Shing and Wing Shing are really the more specialized camera shops in Hong Kong carrying the higher end professional level camera bodies and lenses at pretty much the best prices there in town.

Again, the only real downside is the Hong Kong, China, and Macao only warranty. With a lens there isn't much that can go wrong, but with other things like cameras and computers for example it is worth taking into consideration if you live in Thailand. If you travel though to Hong Kong or mainland China often then I guess it is not so much of a problem to get a repair done when you are there if needed.

Lastly, the lens came with a CD-ROM, which has a manual in PDF form with separate PDF files for every single Canon EF lens. Attached is the manual for the lens I bought so you can see how Canon has started making individual PDf files for each lens.

I was also very surprised to see that the lens takes an 82mm filter. Even all of the big L series Canon telephoto lenses only go as big as 77mm. So this lens has the widest face I have seen so far on a Canon Lens.

Congrats, Marc, you saved THB12.000 Thumbs Up
Broadway, Fortress only sell the basic photo stuff. I'm surprised over the new warranty regulations. Bought 70-200 with East Asia warranty in HK and Canon Thailand repaired a jumping IS for free.

Thanks Hans. Well, it would not be a savings if I flew there just to buy the lens because the cost of the plane ticket would have nearly used up the savings, but I was there for another reason anyway so it worked out well. Also, the lens is not available in Thailand even if I wanted to buy it here. So that was another problem too. Its not a lens in high demand, and its expensive, so you might have to wait a long time to get one in Thailand.

Maybe Canon Thailand will do you a favor and cover the warranty on a small problem like that, and it is nice that they did you a favor, but the Hong Kong Warranty that you get on Canon products purchased in Hong Kong only legally covers China and its territories. There are no international warranties available on Canon products distributed by Canon Hong Kong.

You are a non-believer, aren't you.  Laugh I bought several lenses in HK and they all are under Thai warranty too. Read carefully where Canon HK offers: 'Free of charge warranty' and  'Service will be charged'
That's why I said they probably have new warranty regulations now. Head Scratch

I am a believer now. Shocked

How long ago was that purchase you made?  Head Scratch

Anyway, you can see the warranty I got with my lens attached here too. As you said, it is possible that their warranty policies have changed and they are no longer offering international warranties with lens purchases. Thumbs Down Head Bang

Ultimately, they are only 12 month warranties anyway. Its not really much coverage in the long run. The key to lenses is to protect them though in Thailand by storing them correctly away from humidity which can cause fungus growth. Sorry, I don't mean to start up a whole discussion on that again though. We have covered that subject here 2-3 times already I think. Happy

Canon Thailand is very good though and I have always had good experiences with them. One time I brought in a lens to them to be cleaned that I bought used from someone overseas. This goes back 4-5 years ago already I think. Anyway, they told me that one of the inner elements was defective and they just gave me a whole new lens instead. It was very very nice of them considering the lens wasn't even purchased in Thailand to begin with. And not only was it a new lens, but a never model of the lens as well. That was fantastic! So you can imagine they built a lot of good will with me because of that. Clapping

Marc--Enjoyed reading about your experiences in Hong Kong!
I know Canon went to 82mm when they introduced the newer version of their 16-35mm lens a few years back--just what everyone with 77mm lenses was waiting for.  Sad   One can use step down rings for taking down filter size but not going up.
When I was still shooting Canon found the service center to be very prompt and priced very reasonably in dealing with my SLR's. Remember 2 1/2 years ago my Swiss niece was visiting here in BKK and her Canon point and shoot which was still under warranty had a problem internally. They wanted almost the price of the camera to fix it. She had bought the camera at B&H when she was visiting the USA, and since I was going back to USA not that long afterwards sent it off to Canon USA who fixed it and had it back reasonably quickly.
