I thought this was an interesting read about the images that the BBC gets and the different levels of photojournalism

You could argue whether we really need any new photographs. Have we reached saturation point?

For sure the BBC and any other broadcaster will continue buying pics of latest news. The more spectacular the better. Beside that they have and need a constant update of their stock portfolio. With 8k pics coming in a day (who is viewing all that stuff?) it is getting more difficult for any professional photographer to be one of the chosen.
