There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

I would like to know why some folks add a Copyright to their images and some do not?
Furthermore from various readings I have read that some folks do not like seeing a CR or a Watermark on an image and say it degrades the enjoyment of viewing the image.

So are they saying that so that it would be easier to 'COPY' the image?

And from many of the 'Copy-Right' logos I see; it would not be very difficult to remove them...so what is the purpose?

I suppose if one were to publish an image that was registered with the 'Library of Congress' for example then due recourse would eventually be resolved not withstanding that it may take several generations.

So please offer your comments... and remember whatever you say will influence my future contributions!

some folks do not like seeing a CR or a Watermark on an image and say it degrades the enjoyment of viewing the image.--yes, when it is plastered right dead center it makes it really hard to appreciate the photo. Small at the bottom much better but ultimately of course do not want to see any watermark or copyright info.

Yes it can be removed or cropped away but with the copyright notice the thieves cannot feign not knowing. Anyway, I have it set up in my metadata all the copyright info so all can know it is a willful violation.

I usually post things low enough resolution where if thieves wanted to steal my image they would not be able to get too far blowing it up w/o severe pixellation.

Sadly things are stolen all the time in the digital world. I saw 2 of my images and and even part of my bio on a Vietnamese website, guess they missed reading the part of the site  that said using the images was a direct violation of international copyright law, ...Was drafting up a cease and desist letter but then the company seems to have vanished and is offline--for now.

Jim - There is another discussion we had about this issue on the Forum here which you can read through: http://www.photographythailand.com/Forum/index.php/topic,738.0.html

I recently started doing it with all images I post on the internet because some of my work is now being sold through stock photo agencies and I have to be more careful about what I put online in any public domains. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't be bothered with it because it does disrupt the visual experience for the viewer as David mentioned. Also, some of my general thoughts on this issue are discussed in that previous Forum post as well.

Good question to raise though  Thumbs Up Wink

3 professional photographers before my post here I assume. As I'm a non professional I really never really cared about that. Head Scratch Below my pbase photos appears a Copyright information because of an automatic setting. Never used a watermark. Read somewhere that using a picture of somebody else without his permission is a crime anyway.
