Hello. I'm hoping that someone might stumble across my Canon 5D MKII and 35mm f/1.4L glass.
It was grabbed from me on Wednesday 19th in Khlong Toei, opposite the Bangkok Stock Exchange.
Not happy. That said, I'm always amazed at how honest people pop up when they're least expected

I can offer a US$500 reward to anyone that finds the camera - no questions - or offers reliable info 
leading to its return. Yes, the body/lens are worth more than that, but I feel sorry for anyone who 
unwittingly purchases stolen goods and takes their purchase into Canon for a service at some point.
And it's frankly all I can afford. I know this is a very long shot, but hope springs eternal. The 5D 
may still have a non-Canon orange rubber hand strap. The equipment was in a LowePro 'Slingshot
100 AW' bag, with half a dozen SD-Cards and other bits and bobs, spare battery, lens cleaning kit.

Anyway, please get in touch if a guy with a Molotov cocktail in one hand and an SLR in the other
approaches you in the pub with an unbelievably good MKII deal . I'll provide S/N details then.

Sorry too hear that Ric and hope something turns up on it. You could also try the second hand camera shops at MBK and Central Rama 3 to see if it appears in one of their show cases.

How did it happen? Did someone just rip the bag off of your shoulder on a drive by on a motorcycle?

Thanks, Marc. Yes, it was just grabbed and gone in the blink of an eye.
I'm not sure that I could have done things any differently, maybe other
than handcuffing all the stuff to my wrist. All pretty disappointing really.
Have checked a few of those places, but I'm not holding out high hopes.

Sorry to hear about this Ric. By the way, did this happen during the demonstration period? It sounds like you were in that area of Khlongotey where you said it happened.

Also, it occurred to me they might have just sold the stuff to a pawn shop right away, which is the more likely scenario. In that case, it would be very difficult to ever locate it again I am afraid.

For future reference, you can insure camera equipment under a home insurance policy which will cover the equipment outside of the home too. And in a case like that, it would be covered and replaced by insurance.

Thanks again, Marc. I'm staying on Soi Paisingto, near the Stock Exchange fire on the 19th, so had grabbed my bag and gone to see what the commotion was about.
I was walking back home when I had it wrestled off me. I do have travel insurance, but that won't help retrieve the last few shoots I had on the cards in the bag.
There's not much I can do about any of it, other than perhaps to be more vigilant and aware of the world around me. I appreciate your helpful advice. Cheers.

Your welcome Ric. The upside is we always learn and become more aware of our surroundings after an experience like this. Luckily you weren't hurt. There is always a silver lining if you look for one :)

Its unfortunate but I guess you're safe that's perhaps all that matters.

Chances of recovering it may be slim but I'm sure all the kind souls will help you keep a lookout!
