There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

I know this is obvious, but Wat Phra Kaew (Grand Palace) is a great place to shoot. Yes, there are lot's of tourists there, but if you go during the week it's not so bad. If you go, please dress polite. Last time I went men were required to wear long pants, shirts with sleeves, and women were given a skirt if what they wore was too short.

Another obvious place is Ayutthaya, more specifically Wat Chaiwatthanaram. It's the ancient capitol of Siam and full of ancient statues, buildings, and chedi's.

I know the first two are where everyone goes, but I think if you come to Thailand you owe it to yourself to get some great shots from those two places as they are quite breathtaking. Kind of like going to Disneyworld and getting a shot of the castle. Cheesy

One of my favorite places to shoot is Phuttamonthon (or Buddhamonthon). It is a large park with a large Buddha statue in the middle. There's not much to shoot other than the statue, but it is one of my favorites with the right lighting or cloud cover.

The Erawan Elephant Museum has a really cool room decorated in shells and if I remember right, a long dragon staircase. The upper room is a Buddhist temple. Head over to the gallery page (click link at top) to see some photos.

Thailand is one of the places you can just wander around and get great photo opportunities. We got lost once in the country and I got some nice shots of water buffalo wandering in front of the car.

Hi all,

Even if living in Thailand, I am located at the country side and do not know Bangkok so well... this post is a golden mine to find the interesting sight places, thanks a lot for that !

Hopefully, when I come to BKK, I like to meet my photographer friends living there and we are used to do a photo day trip to enjoy our passion together : last time we went to Nonthaburi market, it is a quite interesting place that I would recommend, not touristic as much and good to shoot what we could call the "Thailand way of life".

In addition, it is nice to see how the Thai people are happy to let themselves be photographed :  only smiles !

If you like large and busy fresh food markets in Bangkok there are many. Not only the ones mentioned in my original post. There is also the very big Khlongotey market. Also Pak Kong Dalat, which is connected to the night time flower market. There is also a very large and clean indoors market along that main road next to the National Stadium which is the road that connects Rama 1 Road and Rama 4. I think the name of the road might be Chula 5 Road. You also have other large street markets around China Town. Kong Tawm and Bang Maw are 2 markets selling all kind of stuff, mainly electronics related though. Those markets alone would keep someone busy for a couple of days  Grin

Yes, indeed, I like these kind of places, more than famous temples full of tourists... thanks for adding some more to my "best places to visit" list :)

Hi Marc

Thanks for the link - that's the sort of information I'm after. Very helpful.
