There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Hi,

I am just venturing into large format (4x5) and would like to know about places/shops in Bangkok (or Saigon) that I can look for gear, buy and process film as well as have some printing done. I've managed to find IQlab and ProColor Lab seem easy enough to find but I'd appreciate hearing about any other places. In terms of equipment priorities I need to get a tripod and head (to carry 5 to 6kg), Lupe and light meter as well as sundry accessories (dark cloth, film change bag etc).

During the last few trip to Bangkok  I have been looking around. One that I haven't been able to find is a shop run by a Mr Pirum Pasa on or near Surawongse Rd. Does anyone know if his shop is still around?

many thanks,

David

I personally would hut around for gear outside of Thailand on e-bay or a like. A lot of older Large format gear is not so suitable for digital, thus there is fair bit knocking around.
I have a friend here who brought a lot of his studio over from Germany, he has a couple of Sinar's with lenses gathering dust along loads of other goodies.... I will see if he wants to sell anything and post it ?

Good luck with all the fun of 5x4 and developing it. I had many years of it and am happy to see the back of the film side of it.

Regards Adam
