I feel sorry for the couple but did smile when I read the article and saw the photos. I know at least in USA in the last few years as the digital photography craze has taken off many couples think no reason to hire a professional photographer and pay money, we can have a friend do it. Needless to say often they are very disappointed with the results unless the friend really knows what he is doing. Makes me think of this great quote I ran across the other day. "Buy a camera and you are a professional photographer. Buy a flute and you now own a flute."

A photographer's portfolio is his CV. Always ask to have a look at it.
WIth the commercialization of digital photography, and DSLR's becoming very affordable as compared to years ago, now the DSLR is more commonplace than say the compact digital camera. It would be wrong for people to assume that owning a DSLR make's one a photographer. Certainly, having a pro DSLR does raise your credibility factor, but we photographers should be judged by the work we churn out, and not by the size of our lenses

ive been taking photos for years,
about 20 years ago for a uk car sales mag (guess i was pro at that lol) before digital age and did alot of cue ball events.

but now i class my self as a novice
always trying to learn

Event shooting is a totally different class in photo shooting. One must understand the event's procedure/process in order not to miss out the important moments. There's no time for a photographer to perform test shot , reset/re-fine settings, and shoot again...

Am LoL'ing while I am waiting for my slow-arse BKK internet to download the website... I have talked so many young photography enthusiasts out of shooting their best friend's wedding... it's too bad some people don't really think things through sometimes when they are trying to save money.  Save money on ANYTHING but your photographer!

ahhh can finally see the article... I'm sure they aren't the WORST wedding pictures ever, but that's a pretty funny store still.  Got to wonder exactly what they saw that made them hire this guy in the first place.

So, they get their money back... do they get to keep the pictures?  Seems to be they wouldn't be entitled to any pictures if they ask for a refund on the contract?  Even if the photographer sucks... that doesn't seem to be a reason to let them get the pictures and their money?
