This is a shot I took in January 2005 from the little foot bridge that crosses the river by the old market in Uthaithani.

The shot in color actually looked very flat and hazy with washed out looking colors, but as a "converted to B&W" photo, it turned out to have much better contrast.

In addition, the hazing over some of the hills in the back ends up looking like morning fog to me whereas it clearly looked like hazing in the color photo.

On a clear day though, the different colors of all the floating homes can be nice too if you capture it just right.

What is so great about this shooting location though is that the landscape is always changing. New homes come in and old ones move on. So it is a location you can shoot at various times of the year and almost be guaranteed a different looking shot every time.

In the attached image I did a slight bit of retouching in the background to remove a few small houses on land and replace them with trees to give the image a more rural feel showing only life along the river.

Hi, Marc, nice picture that I actually plan to make a trip there.  Just asked my driver and he does not know where it is.  Is it close by?  Is there a landmark close to it?

If anyone can suggest of a photo locations please help...... I start shooting tomorrow and maybe again next week.  I live in the Nonthaburi area and could make a trip to up to 2 hours one way.  Thanks.  Anna

Hi Anna. You can just tell your driver to take you to the center of town in Uthaithani if you want to shoot in the location. It is about a 3.5 hour drive from Bangkok. In the center of Uthaithani there are a few different rotaries which all have roads leading down to the river. The clock rotary is the first one and the rotary with the elephant tusks is the second rotary. Go to the elephant tusks rotary and ask your driver to drop you there because normally the road going down to the river is closed off to cars in the afternoon. It is just a short 1 block walk to the river where that foot bridge is that I took the shot. The afternoon market (Dalat Nat) is right there next to the bridge also. I hope that helps and looking forward to seeing your photos.
