There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

It is rather expensive, but so is the only direct competitor, the 1DsIII. But for that kind of money, I would probably rather buy the A900 with Zeiss 24-70mm f/2.8, Zeiss 135mm f/1.8 and Sony 70-300 G. I tried the Sony in Hong Kong last week, and was rather impressed. Not seen it here yet though.

Very funny!...... But he's not wrong.. Have a look at what Ken Rockwell says about the D3X.... Iv been thinking about moving back to the Canon camp for a while and to be  honest a 5DMII and couple prime lenses is a whole lot cheaper that than this marketing botch up Nikon have delivered.
Still Feb 2009, rumors of a large sensor in DSLR body like the new 38MP Lieca coming! How much will they want for one then?
Thanks for the post Mark, good one ..

The Leica is not a rumour. Here's the link to their own homepage:

http://us.leica-camera.com/photography/s_system/

The D3x costs more or less the same as the corresponding Canon, the 1DsIII. Comparing it to the 5DII is like comparing a Lexus to a Corolla. It may only give you 20-30% more functionality, but those marginal features have always been expensive.

Sorry, Nikon medium format sensor in a DSLR body was the rumor ,thanks for  the Lieca link anyway.... Nikon have previously priced there X' models at about $1000 more..this D3x is way more than that. If you don't need a Lexus to go from A to B.... Then the Canon  5DII is still looking like a good choice for me if you want the xtra rez. So unless Nikon come up with a D800 with the D3X chip..soonish,yes I'm tempted to updrade my old D70 to Canon.

I think we agree  :)

If you are considering a change, have a look at the Sony A900 as well. Those I know who have bought it are extremely happy, and the Zeiss lenses, particularly the 24-70/2.8 and the 135/1.8, are better than Nikon or Canon. You even get IS (in-body) at those focal lengths, something neither of the "old giants" will give you.

They won't be selling a ton of these cameras but if you have lots of Nikon gear already and need large prints, it's the way to go.
