There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Just wanted to say Hi to everyone. I am new to Bangkok and the world of Photography, just taken a beginners course and really enjoyed it and looking to buy a better camera and go out and take some pics. Looking for all the best advise on what's a good start up camera and will review the forum as I am sure there must be others who have posted similar questions. So if you see one of my posts and it seems a little green please bear with me.

Hello Trevor,

Welcome to the forum. I first started taking pictures in 1968 when I got a camera the Minolta SRT – 101 w/ 55mm f/1.7.

At that time I knew absolutely nothing about photography and now 40 years later; I still know absolutely nothing. Lucky for me it was not my profession because I would have starved to death.

Today with all of the online forums and the wealth of information available it is a great environment for learning.

Read the threads on this forum for good information; go out and take a lot of photos of subjects that are of interest to you and just enjoy yourself and your new hobby.

As for cameras I always thought I had the best available until something better came along and in comparing the images from one generation of cameras / lenses to the next I can see some noticeable difference as far as digital is concerned.

I do not recommend one brand name over another although I am married to Canon because of my investment in their bodies and glass.

I would love to find a great point and shoot but until they get honest with the mega pixel myth and clean up the noise problems associated with all small sensors I will just keep using the crummy ones I already own.

Best of luck and enjoy.
