I believe it is not permitted on the skytrain either without a permit. But if just a happy snappy camera and you look like a tourist mostly they won't bother you. The state railway trains and stations though should not be a problem to shoot at all

Do you know how to go about getting the permit Marc?

I am not sure, but I would try contacting the Sky Train people through the web site.

At sky trains stations, among the many signs not to eat or drink or do a number of other things, I have never seen a no photography sign...and I have looked...often.  And I have taken photos in full sight of the security guys with no intervention.  Are you sure it's not allowed?

Maybe you are right. Maybe their policy has changed on this. I have seen no photo signs though I think. But maybe the best thing is to check with them to be sure. I don't think it would be difficult to get an answer from them on what their official policy is.

As far as photographing on the skytrain and its platforms, that's not prohibited-- just so long as you aren't using a tripod.  If you want to use a tripod, you'll need to get a permit.  If you ask the ticket booth personnel, they can give you the number and location of where to obtain the permit.

97%.... Sure  It is definitely prohibited to take pictures in the skytrain. I think the list of "no can do" signs in the stations lobbies does include a camera. However, it's Ok to take pictures of the city vistas from a platform.  In general,  public transportation authorities, any country, do require you get a written permission to shoot inside.

Dept stores in Thailand do forbid photography too, in general. I have been told not to shoot there more often there than in skytrain locations.

No problem...it's just that I have always looked for such signs, always seen the others (that include no eating or drinking and even "no hawking"), but at the three stations I stopped at yesterday, again, no "no photo" signs.
