Hi
I have the Canon 1D Mark 3, a model with which Canon identified a manufacturing problem with the sub-mirror and they are now offering a fix. This requires a partial dismantling of the camera.
My 1D has not exhibited any of the problems caused by the manufacturing problem,  but I would rather have the fix done; otherwise it will be less attractive to sell once the time arrives.
My concern is the ability of Canon Thailand service centre to carry out this fix. he quality of Canon service seems to vary considerably by country; has anyone had any experience with Canon in Thailand? Do they provide a professional service in your opinion?
Grateful for any feedback
Thanks
Hugh

Hugh--a year ago I had some work done by Canon's service center on Sathorn here in BKK. Thought the service was very good--they called me up with the price it would be, and I gave the go ahead to do it--less than a week and it was done.

I've had good experience with them as well. I suspect if the issue is difficult they may send it out to Japan so I would ask first. My lens issue (stuck aperture) needed a simple cleaning I believe and they handled it quickly and professionally.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I assume they are doing the work locally as they quoted me a 2-3 day turnround time. Will report back on how it goes.

Well, it was all very positive.
I checked in the camera and the girl at reception was familiar with the sub-mirror fix and told me it would take a few days and would not cost me anything.
A couple of hours after I left Canon I was offered a job which would require me to have the camera back in two and a half days. I mailed Canon and asked if they could finish it by then and I received a prompt reply saying that they would. Two hours before I was due to collect it I received an SMS saying it was ready for collection.
And the camera works as well as it ever did (I never had any of the problems that were reported).
Well done Canon Thailand!
