There are some photographers who are just pressing a button. And then there are the others who see the world in a very different way...

Now that my old computer has died and I have a brand spanking new laptop I was thinking it was a good time to start being more organised with the way I work and store my photos.

Are there any any special programs that Forum members would recommend I use for organising my images?  Ones that would for example allow me to find specific pictures stored on my back-up hard disks and laptop easily?

cheers,
Simon.

Simon,
I think Iview media pro would be a good choice, I've been using that a long time and it works fine. It handles large amounts of files with no problems, something that a lot of other software has problems with.

Simon--
I have been using Adobe Lightroom to do most of the processing on images, and it is a database as well.

I too have found Adobe Lightroom good.  Scott Kelby has an excellent book that will provide you with the knowledge to use it to its potential as well.

Thanks Bjorn, David and Gus.  After having talked to a few people I think I'm going to get myself a copy of Lightroom.  Where would I find a copy of the Scott Kelby book?

Check out Martin Evening's book as well.  I had bought mine from Amazon and got it when I was back in the USA, not sure where you would find it in BKK. Have seen some similar type books (not Lightroom if I recall) at Kinokuniya, but as with most all their English language import books $$$. Also there are some videos available from luminous-landscape.com.

Like David I bought mine from Amazon.com.  I find them fast and effecient to deal with and never had a problem with them.

I second the Picasa suggestion. It's not as robust as Lightroom for editing, but more intuitive / fast for organizing.
